Figures released today by on-line parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk reveal that driveways and empty parking spaces made a staggering £12 million for their owners in 2017.

Further analysis shows that more than 15,000 property owners listed with YourParkingSpace.co.uk made more than £500 each last year simply by renting out their empty driveways to motorists looking for cheaper or more convenient car parking.

Geographically, London is the most popular city, making up 34% of all earnings, closely followed by Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Manchester respectively.

Less obvious localities away from the parking hotspots, such as Dudley, Wolverhampton, Luton and Stoke-on-Trent, still saw empty driveways make more than £1,000 a year on average for residents using YourParkingSpace.co.uk.
